Photo AlbumPasar Malam Tong Tong, Den Haag (33 photos)Jun 1, '08 7:10 AM
for everyone

for everyone

PS : cerita diatas bukan iklan merek tertentu, cuma kebetulan.

It's a nice ad to describe the diversity and the richness of the country

Disclaimer : it's not a promo nor a paid effort to promote this brand, it's merely to show the Trully Indonesia

Some men in Javanese attire sat before the temple and some people sang accompanied with the gamelan orchestra. A few sets of gunungan were also placed next to the altar. It sounds like a typical Javanese celebration? Yup, but this one is a Holy Mass celebration of Ganjuran Parish, Bantul, Yogya, an annual celebration of Javanese culture, religion and thanksgiving expression.
This unique holy mass was situated in the only Jesus Sacred Heart Temple or known as Candi Hati Kudus Yesus in Ganjuran, Bantul, Yogya.
This Hindu-style Temple was built next to the Parish Church, a church complex that was established by a Dutch family who ran the sugar factory that used to be next to the church’s present location. This Dutch family also built some charity ministries from schools until hospitals in Yogya. The name Sacred Heart is used as a devotion to the Sacred Heart. It might inspire this year’s theme : To bless the others after we receive God’s blessing
The temple as well as the church visibly are heavily influenced by the local Javanese culture, regarding the art used for the church and (mainly) the temple
This annual celebration is held on every last Sunday every June

Photo AlbumCap Go Meh in Bogor's Chinatown (23 photos)Mar 20, '07 5:08 AM
for everyone

Cap Go Meh in Bogor, it was the first time seeing the dragon parade at night since the festivities began at around 5 PM. It’s also the first time ever for me to see Tanjidor busker coming to entertain homes in Chinatown. This festival on Suryakencana also gave us a chance for culinary journey though it’s not my first culinary trip on Surken. At that night, I decided to give a try on noodle resto with its special meal, spinach noodle and carrot noodle.

Photo AlbumThe Exotic Old City of Semarang (15 photos)Jun 8, '06 6:39 AM
for everyone

Semarang....
This city is truly like my second hometown for me since I used to visit my grandparents who lived in this city, the capital of Central Java province. Sadly I never paid any attention to the exotic parts of city. But last month on a very long weekend (four consecutive days) I got a chance to visit this city again.

Sam Poo Kong was the first and my priority in my one-day itinerary. Surprisingly, this temple has easy access from the downtown. Use Tugu Muda, the landmark of this city and go to Ungaran or Jatingaleh direction and later turn right before Karyadi Hospital. Go straight on and you could easily find it in the left side of the road. I found this place unique and rich in culture. It was still under construction for more buildings. After succeeding to take some pictures (I adore the Chinese interior and exterior that look cool).
I also paid my very first visit to Toko Oen. It’s a restaurant that has been serving its loyal customer since Dutch colonial era. I ordered an ice cream just because of my curiosity for the ‘ancient’ menu available here. My culinary journey didn’t end here after I heard the Semarang Chinatown that now has its own culinary market. A street is usually closed at night then some hawkers could freely sell their food there. Unfortunately most food are non halal Chinese food though I could also see some hawkers selling local halal food.
Don’t forget the architecture of some old building in the old city. It would be nice object for your photos. Blenduk Church seemed so interesting that I had to stop and take some pictures. Another man also took some pics with his SLR camera at the same time probably that’s the reason he dared to ask a driver to move his car (while I only had a pocket digital camera hehehehe).

Leaning tower in Semarang?
Yup I found it when a friend showed me the tower of Kauman mosque near Johar market. It’s due to the periodic inundation of water in the mosque. Unique? That’s for sure. It’s just one of many unique sides of this city.
Perhaps someday I had to take another city tour in Semarang again. Hopefully….!!
