That’s probably how we could describe best the recent month as Valentine’s Day gets more popular and everywhere lovers try to find ways for expressing their love.

I suppose people everywhere not only in Jakarta become more passionate about love, Hollywood movie makers run their premiere in February, Indonesian see the remake movie “Badai Pasti Berlalu, chocolate factories records more sales this month…

Unlike the more passionate love expression, people also see pathetic choice of many love stories that eventually come to an end.

What could I say….? I’m obviously not a love guru nor a love expert but sometimes my mind goes to what I heard many years ago about love

It’s about commitment
I happened to visit an Institute in Bandung for a weekend getaway after some depressing weeks of study in my campus (in Jakarta). A poster drew my attention, ‘Love, Sex and Dating Seminar”, oops it did sound attractive. In short, I came and saw a couple, husband and wife delivered their talk about the topic. They were members of  Marriage Encounter, a kind of marriage enrichment program.  Their words stunned me when they said that marriage failure could happen since people depend merely on their own feeling. ‘Should we depend only on our feeling??” told them,’What if your spouse gets sick, and unable to serve you? What if he/she gets overweight and becomes unattractive? Would you still love him/her? Love should not be based on our own feeling"

‘Those are the reasons that I believe, Love is a matter of commitment not a matter of love’.

They added,”That’s why marriage could survive through many obstacles, not to mention we don’t have other challenges,..!’

I finnally agree with their conviction,a blessing for me and it also has an impact on me since it’s applicable to any of our loved ones, be it our girlfriend, your parents, friends.

Thanks to that inspiring couple, I’m inspired to have a commitment for people I love,
